How to De-stress and Heal

How stress is damaging us?

Many studies and research have proven how stress damages our lives, especially our health. For example, the WHO (World Health Organization) has information about stress on their website. Despite that, I see most people are still in ignorance or denial about it. Stress has caused so many people to suffer, causing a lot of pain and trauma throughout their lives.

Here are 5 simple tips to help you de-stress and self-healing:

1. Relaxing Your Mind

Make it a habit to not overthink things easily. Just relax yourself because just thinking it won't solve the problem. Consult with people you trust instead or just look for reliable and professional help.

2. Start Loving Yourself

If the root of your stress came from your haters, just think of these words: "Haters gonna hate". This means that no matter what you do or how well you try to fix it, they will still keep hating you. It's just what they do and the only thing they can do about you. So, just leave them be and begin to focus on loving yourself instead. Look in the mirror now and you better love what you see (Sheryl Lee, 2023 Critics Choice Awards).

3. Talk to People Who Love You

Some people admire and love you too, look for them and focus on them instead of those haters. If you have a toxic family, try to talk to them and give them an understanding of yourself, or go to a family consultant. Tell them that "our family is not healthy, please help me, I need you on my side."

But if your family is unredeemable, perhaps it's better for you to just leave and show them through actions and results. Stand tall and look for people who truly are on your side, be that friends, neighbors, etc. Just remember that by the end of the day, family is where you are, sooner or later you have to solve the problems, so don't run from it.

4. Healthy Body, Healthy Mind

Keep your body balanced and healthy. Exercising is not only good for your body but also your mind. It can make you love your body more, feeling great and healthy. A healthy diet is also important, you don't have to be vegan, but keep your meals balanced in nutrients. Sleep and rest well, exhaustion can lower your mental capacity and make you easily irritable.

There are many healthy lifestyles you can choose from, you can try asking health consultants or researching on Google, WHO, health influencers, etc.

5. Do What You Love

Picking up a hobby can be tricky, but you have to choose the one you enjoy the most. And remember it should not be a toxic hobby because believe me, it's only temporary. For me, I love drawing, painting, and dancing, so that's what I do to heal my mind.

There are so many choices these days and you don't have to pick the typical hobbies. It can be something simple like gaming, visiting your family home, etc. Just pick one or some and be happy while doing it. Make new happy memories from it too.

Stress is often overlooked by many people until it finally hits them or loved ones really bad, even suicidal. And I was one of those people. I was having suicidal thoughts without realizing it since I was thirteen until one day it dawned on me that I wanted to die every day. I've always thought that I had a normal life and just a bit of intrusive thoughts, but it turns out I'm not. Now I'm 28 years old, and I finally take the first step towards healing myself.
